If you read the Gal Costa post, you might remember the founder of the Tropicalia movement being a fella by the name of Caetano Veloso. I won’t say too much about him in this post. But I’ll just quickly share a favorite funky songs by him.
Monte Negro sounds like the Red Hot Chili Peppers clashing with a young Manà. They are a Los Angeles band whose roots began in punk through brother’s Kinski Gallo(vocals) and Rodax Gallo’s(bass) first band Anima. After the split from the rest of the band, the brothers adopted Jason Lin Shing and Xavier Lopez into the band and formed the early version of this band.
Pena Colectiva (Collective Pain) is eccentric with beautiful lyrics like “there are no exits in this labyrinth called life.”
As a band with members who have consistently turned away their Latin heritage, it is ironic then to see that the band’s greatest songs are those that embrace this ethnic flavor so wholly. -AbsolutePunk.com
The rest of their songs are just as interesting as this one. Their debut album Cicatrix (e.p) is a change in styles nearly every other song and is a marvel for anyone with genre ADD like mine. Hope you like it. Enjoi.
