Jon Foreman Switchfoot

Normally not a big fan of alternative music for predictability in it’s delivery, this man is the exception.

Jon Foreman, front man of Switchfoot, released four EP’s (Summer, Spring, Fall, Winter) from 07 through 08. The EP’s are a magnificent display of his abilities as an artist and are all very interesting to listen to. All he needs is his voice and the guitar, all else is filler, but create an interesting ambience.

Very good. enjoi

Coldplay

You might be a big fish
In a little pond
Doesn’t mean you’ve won
‘Cause along may come
A bigger one
And you’ll be lost

Off Coldplay’s new album Viva La Vida comes Lost, probably a favorite off the new album. In case you do not have it, get it, that’s implying you already know who Coldplay is. If you do not then try songs like Clocks, In My Place, Yellow, The Scientist, or Violet Hill since you’re bound to recognize one. Feel free to share your favorite Coldplay song in the comment area.

Monte Negro

Monte Negro sounds like the Red Hot Chili Peppers clashing with a young Manà. They are a Los Angeles band whose roots began in punk through brother’s Kinski Gallo(vocals) and Rodax Gallo’s(bass) first band Anima. After the split from the rest of the band, the brothers adopted Jason Lin Shing and Xavier Lopez into the band and formed the early version of this band.

Pena Colectiva (Collective Pain) is eccentric with beautiful lyrics like “there are no exits in this labyrinth called life.”

As a band with members who have consistently turned away their Latin heritage, it is ironic then to see that the band’s greatest songs are those that embrace this ethnic flavor so wholly. -AbsolutePunk.com

The rest of their songs are just as interesting as this one. Their debut album Cicatrix (e.p) is a change in styles nearly every other song and is a marvel for anyone with genre ADD like mine. Hope you like it. Enjoi.

1st Place

The greatest feelings can be instilled into the smallest platforms of communication; with different sensory receptions the insignificant can become meaningful. The smell of baking brownies can remind you of grandmother, a picture can remind you of a past trip to the beach; nostalgia creeps its fingers into anything.

Many people know who this band is and will probably agree on a lot, this goes out to all the younguns, and people who just woke up from a coma (literally or metaphorically).

At the Drive-In represents the late 90’s better than Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, Oasis, Mase, or anyone else you can name (Pac and Biggie where mid 90’s). Their insane and highly energetic live shows were filled with emotion and provide proof to how powerful music can be.

At the Drive-In broke up in the early 00’s. Remnants of the band are found in bands Sparta and The Mars Volta.

If you have never heard of At the Drive In, then I wish I could share them with you. They are ear-splitting pandemonium, deafening metallic guitar squawks, muddy bass, and a chaotic splashing, beating and pummeling of drums. Take this as a gift please and enjoi.

Chronic Future

“Put yourself through the scariest of scenarios
Enter experiences you normally wouldn’t dare to go
It’s all for the character and the arrogant afterglow
Of knowing it’s appearance according to your patterns of growth
And what your parents handed down to you to handle
Make sure you carry torches when they’re puttin out your candles
Predictions can be unkind but unwind them still
Don’t erase the part of you that’s responsible for your will”

Talk about some sick lyrics.

Many people would rather skip all their problems in life and go around them, instead of plowing through them and learning from them.

“Dont make the same mistakes I made son!” - says the father.
“How do you intend for me to lead such a perfect life if I know nothing of how to avoid the bad that i’ve already dealt with in the past?” says the wise son.

Time and Time Again is a well done poppunk/alternative/hiphop song. The lyrics make it so much more.

What a chronic future we have to look forward to.

Misguided

“I’d cry at night knowing I was you” she spat.
I could only focus on the sharp stiletto piercing my pelvis. ”All you slobs are the same,” she firmly prodded, “you assholes aren’t happy unless you’re a few inches deep in something.”
A sinister silence followed the cold echo of her voice bringing about my stutter, “I- I didn’t mean to hurt you?” Her crimson stilettos suffocating my bare existence, “Hurt!?” her eyes impaled mine, “You’ve been on the ropes since you ‘met’ me.”

“So it was your plan all along-” the bloody words dripped out.

“Of course!” she laughed haughtily, finally towering over her creation. My dominated body now a footing for her proud statuesque form. The accomplished smirk on her face collided with my trembling innards. With the little energy I had saved, I vocalized my final words

“-Even the anal?”
